First update – our Moorish Baby Mo is now one year old and will soon commence working in the van:

Secondly, we’ve added Pastilla Cigars to the regular menu!

Pastilla – crispy pasty filled with shredded chicken, egg and onion cooked in delicious spice combined with a layer of roasted ground almonds and cinnamon – are normally reserved for special occasions and our busy Fringe/WOMAD season.  But now, we have all the flavour of the Pastilla, packed into handy snack size:

They have been quite the hit. Get yours at our next event!

 

Lastly, here’s your list of upcoming events for the rest of 2016:

Tonight! – The Adelaide Night Market – 4-8pm along North Terrace, city.  A really lovely evening.

Next Friday 16 December – Forkmas!  Fork on the Road‘s Christmas instalment. 5-9pm, Victoria Square, city.  Food trucks, craft beer/wine/cider, awesome tunes, kids activities and a massive water balloon fight! Don’t forget to bring a gift or book for the Smith Family Appeal.

Tuesday 27 & Wednesday 28 December – Bay Sheffield carnival at Glenelg.  You can “race” to find us, serving both days near the Rotunda, Colley Reserve, Glenelg!

Saturday 31 December – Official Adelaide New Year’s Eve 2016, Elder Park city.  See the New Year in with a BANG with some Mo’rockin good food and fireworks! Also live music, beer gardens, children’s entertainment including family fairground.

 

And first up in 2017 we have:

Saturday 7 January – The South-East’s Wangolina Wines‘ annual Saturday at the Station, Cape Jaffa.  Great family day of quality food, wine, tunes and family activities. Buses running from Robe and Kingston.  Make the most of our fabulous South Australia and join us!

 

Friday 13 January – Beachfront Twilight Markets, Seacliff – the second instalment for the summer season.  A unique shopping experience on the beachfront aimed at families on a beautiful, balmy twilight evening. Lots of yummy food, family fun and entertainment.

Lastly, we wish you a lovely holiday season and hope to see you van-side at an upcoming event.

We’re all set up and almost through our first weekend of Garden trade for 2015.

You can find us in the Southern-side food section next to the Umbrella Revolution. We’ve got a FULL menu including a treat for those hot, hot days – fresh iced-mint tea.

Usual trading times are: Monday to Thursday – 5:00pm to Midnight (garden open until 1:00am) Friday- Saturday – 12 noon to 1:00am (garden open from 10am and closes 3:00am) Sunday – 12 noon to Midnight (garden open from 10am and closes 1:00am)

Happy New Year! What a lovely summer break that was. If not a little noisy – Chef Mo’ took the time off to get out the angle grinder and cut a new servery window for the #moorishvan with the help of Papa Moorish Peter (never a dull moment!)

We’ve since hit the Adelaide streets running in 2015, and its about to get even more exciting for Moorish Bites.  Coming up…

TODAY Sunday 25 January – Adelaide Night Market from 4 to 8pm, North Terrace

The wonderful Adelaide Night Market a monthly event held in the warmer months which had its 2nd Birthday in December.

It’s a great collection of both the well-known food trucks as well as smaller, family-run food stalls, plus artisanal craft and food goodies.  It’s also a great use of the usually under-enjoyed, but lovely stretch of garden along the top of Government House.

We’re excited to debut the Tagine Burger – slow-cooked lamb in Moroccan spices, topped with “Tefaya” (caramelised onion, sultanas and fried almonds) on a bed of saffron coleslaw, served on a toasted brioche bun.  Special today only for $10.00

Find us on North Terrace, near the War Memorial and corner of Kintore Avenue from 4-8pm.

The Porch Sessions – 9 February 2015 – gates from 5pm – location to be disclosed (intriguing!)

Our souk street food will be complementing the February, seaside-bound installment of the Porch Sessions.

This eclectic musical gathering creates a musical oasis, bringing the tunes, food and wine, Persian rugs, fairy lights and all-round good times to a secret residential garden once a month across the warmer seasons.

Tickets have already sold out for this and the next one (wowsers!), so if you were not lucky enough to nabs yours this time around you should stay tuned for their later installments here and be very, very quick!

The Garden of Unearthly Delights – 12 February to 15 March 2015

We are pumped to be selected to be a part of the Garden this year in our super stall form.  We’ll be serving our full compliment for the Fringe folk at the original and the best magical oasis of the festival season.

Check out the program here to see a show as well as savoring on our souk street food.

Usual Garden hours are 5pm to late Monday to Thursday and 10am to very late on Friday to Sunday –  look for the Mo’rockin Moorish Bites stall!

Chef Mohamed’s Moorish Hometown

Just recently the New York Times sent the communal beating heart of Adelaide aflutter with their props to our fine city, including a shout out to our street food prowess, described as a:

robust dining scene that encompasses everything from street (Fork on the Road) to posh (Hill of Grace, atop the redeveloped Adelaide Oval)

IN ADDITION, The New York Times also recently gave Chef Mohamed’s Moroccan hometown a beautiful write up:

Of course, Chefchaouen — or Chaouen, as it’s sometimes called — is already famous as an outrageously picturesque blue-walled city. Inside the ancient gated medina nearly every building is painted an arresting shade of cerulean or azure, the sky blues juxtaposed with white trim and terra-cotta rooftops. Twisting cobblestone paths lead up and up, around the ocher-colored casbah, past a crumbling cemetery where goats graze, to a landscape of green hills and mountaintops, uninterrupted sky extending beyond. It’s like being inside a Chagall painting.

We can’t wait to go back on our next food safari and to bring back even more exciting flavours and Moroccan artisan products to our ‪‎#moorishflock‬ of Adelaide!

Square Fire is a free show put on by professional fire spinners from around Australia.  Food, activities and atmosphere from 4pm, the show starts at 8pm.  Also a Spash Adelaide initiative – see here for more information.

Sunday 23 November from 3pm to 7pm @ Unley Swimming Centre – The Fabulous Feast Festival is putting on the Plunge Pool Party for an an afternoon of aquatic delights and party tunes and we’re there to make it #moorish !  See here for more information.

This week’s trading times!

This week the happy man in a van will be serving up his Moroccan spice and all things nice:

  • Moorish lunchtime THIS Tuesday 21 October from 11am to 2pm @ Victoria Square, city.
  • Get some #streetfood satisfaction THIS Saturday 25 October from 4pm to 7:30pm @ Blue Hive, Riverbank Promenade, city at our Moorish Bites stall.  Come soak up the atmosphere of the city before the Rolling Stones concert (whether you have tickets, or a nice blanket on the Riverbank outside!
  • UPDATE: We’ll be at the Adelaide Night Market, North Terrace THIS Sunday 26 October 4pm to 8pm.

Moorish Bites @ Movies in the Square – this weekend!

We had a great time at the Semaphore Music Festival and had some amazing feedback about our food!

What’s next? Movies in the Square brought to you by Splash Adelaide.

Catch us in Victoria Square this Friday 10 October and Saturday 11 October evenings serving up our rockin’ Moroccan souk street food.

Friday will see us a part of our first Fork on the Road, with the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Saturday night’s movie will be Frozen.

Movies are FREE and start at sundown, but we will be serving from 5-10pm on both Friday and Saturday.
